It partners with the GBUs to deliver more value and leverages the Group’s capabilities to improve competitiveness and create new business opportunities for Solvay and its customers.
Vacancy description
The rising demand for clean energy drives research in the development of stationary energy storage. Within this context, redox flow batteries (RFB) have emerged as promising candidates for electrochemical energy storage due to their inherent technological and electrochemical flexibility.
Among the different types of redox flow batteries, organic or organometallic redox-active materials stand out because of their low cost and properties which can be tuned by suitable modification.
- The objective of the project is to optimize organic and organometallic molecules for organic redox flow batteries that simultaneously fulfill key criteria such as a high redox potential, excellent solubility, and excellent (cycling) stability. - The research activities will mainly be carried out at E2P2L labs in Shanghai, China, in a multidisciplinary team composed of electrochemists, modeling, and organic chemists. - The candidate is expected to carry out an interdisciplinary work that combines optimization, functionalization and characterization of organic/organometallic molecules, as well as solubility and electrochemical testing for application in a prototype full redox flow battery.
Profile
PhD in synthetic organic or organometallic chemistry.
Experience in electrochemistry or battery materials is not required, but considered a strong plus.
Good English and communication skills to bridge between various disciplines, comfortable working in an internationa teams and collaborative environment, initiative, creative and innovative person.
Applications must include curriculum vitae, a motivation letter, and 1 or 2 letters of recommendation.
Conditions of employment
The candidate will be appointed for a period of 1 year on a fixed-term with a possible extension of 1 year.
