Role
Tesla’s Shanghai R&D team is looking for a highly motivated Intern to support the electromagnetic (EM), EMC, and antenna design and testing of vehicle systems. Depending on your background and project needs, you will focus on either EMC/RF analysis or antenna development (or a mix of both), from concept and modeling through prototype fabrication and measurement. This is a hands-on role where a solid foundation in electromagnetics, RF/Antenna theory, and basic simulation/measurement skills is required.
Responsibilities
Depending on your expertise and team requirements, you will assist with tasks in one or both of the following areas:
Electromagnetic (EMC / RF) Tasks:
Support Simulation: Assist in simplifying vehicle or component geometry, generating high‑quality meshes, and running EMC/RF simulations (radiated emissions, shielding effectiveness, S‑parameters) using CST Studio, Ansys HFSS, FEKO, or ADS.
Assist in Testing: Support in‑house EMC testing at the vehicle and component levels (conducted/radiated immunity and emissions, ESD).
Data Analysis: Help analyze test results, compare them with simulation data, and brainstorm design improvements with senior engineers.
Antenna Tasks:
Antenna Modeling: Assist in building and simulating antenna models (patch, inverted‑F, slot, array, etc.) for vehicle communication, Wi‑Fi/5G, and GNSS using CST, HFSS, or FEKO.
Prototyping & Layout: Participate in creating basic PCB layouts for antenna designs and assist in prototype fabrication (PCB assembly, 3‑D printing).
Measurement Support: Help conduct antenna measurements in anechoic chambers (S‑parameter/VSWR sweeps, gain, radiation patterns) and process the measurement data.
General Duties:
Lab Operations: Learn to operate and maintain RF test equipment (Vector Network Analyzers, Antenna Chamber,Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, Oscilloscopes).
Documentation: Prepare clear technical reports, document simulation setups and measurement results, and update internal knowledge bases.
Collaboration: Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross‑functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Antenna, Microwave Engineering, or a related field.
Solid Foundation: Strong grasp of foundational electromagnetics, RF/microwave/Antenna theory, and either EMC principles or antenna design basics.
Simulation Skills: Basic hands‑on experience or academic exposure to at least one EM simulation platform (CST Studio, Ansys HFSS, FEKO, or ADS).
Hardware Knowledge: Ability to read basic circuit schematics and an understanding of RF circuit theory.
Lab Experience: Familiarity with basic RF test equipment (VNA, spectrum analyzer) and lab measurement techniques.
