The internship programme aims to engage students in the activities of the IFRC and give them the opportunity to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments in or related to the humanitarian field.
This position provides support to the healthy aging programme and in particular programme research and development, in the areas of communications, learning, capacity building and information management. When and if necessary the Intern would provide support in interpretation, translation and organization of activities in the related field.
China mainland is facing rapid population aging in the coming 50 years. More than 240 million aging population (above 60 years old) in China by the end of 2017, accounting for 16.7% of the total population proportion, which is far more than the international aging standards. This group is expected to be a quarter of the population by 2030.
Upon the calling on from government of actively addressing the aging population and implementing the healthy aging related activities, Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) has started its healthy aging service in selected provinces for piloting since 2017. Based on the advantages of Volunteers’ Manual of IFRC healthy aging guide, plans are proposed for the integration of IFRC manual into the aging care service.
Job duties and responsibilities
· The position is a full-time intern based in IFRC CCST – Beijing. The position reports to the health officer and head of CCST, demonstrating considerable creativity in assisting the work of healthy aging programme.
· Conduct in-depth research of all aspects of healthy aging and familiarize with the current healthy aging projects in China in particular in relation with the role of the RCSC.
· Develop a research report mapping out the government’s activies and plans in healthy aging to identify the gaps and propose the solutions.
· Develop a concept note based on the advantages of Volunteers’ Manual of IFRC healthy aging for the integration of IFRC manual into the RCSC aging care service.
· Support in discussion with RCSC to identify the healthy aging work plan and the tools of implementation.
· Support in other CCST work as needed.
